CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — The University of Virginia’s governing board reinstated its popular president Tuesday only weeks after ousting her in a secretive move that infuriated students and faculty, had the governor threatening to fire the entire board and sparked debate about how to best run public universities in a tight budget climate.

The 15-member Board of Visitors voted unanimously to give Teresa Sullivan her job back during a brief meeting at the university’s hi[......]

Teresa Sullivan, Statement to the University of Virginia Board of Visitors, June 21, 2012, Chronicle of Higher Education [Post 532]

In 1816, our founder Thomas Jefferson said, “as new discoveries are made, new truth discovered and manners and opinions change with the change of circumstances institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times.”

I certainly want to take so[......]

The Right Way to Lead Higher Education Through the Digital Age

Here at the University of Virginia, we have been going through a traumatic couple of weeks. As a result of a reckless and radical move by the Board of Visitors to drive President Teresa Sullivan from her office, we have lost financial support, students, and talented colleagues. The board has damaged the reputation of this great institution. So we on the faculty are fighting to restore the reputation.

When the rector of the Board, Helen Dragas, declared late last week th[......]
