The Semester at Sea program began in 1963 at Chapman College
(now University); moved to the University of Colorado, and then to the
University of Pittsburg, and most recently to the University of Virginia. The
Institute for Shipboard Education, a nonprofit organization, owns the M/V
Explorer, a ship with seven decks, and 589 feet long, two restaurants, nine
class rooms, and an about 90% of the crew members return for additional

As an infant or toddler, I of
course don’t really remember my earliest Christmasses, but as a child I do
remember that my parents put up the Christmas tree. We put out milk and cookies
for Santa, which by morning had disappeared. Part of one early Christmas gift
from Santa that still remains is a foot long red wooden farm wagon with the
farmer guiding the horse (which got accidentally broken by one of my children
much later).  I don’t remember when I

Working together, most of the Autumn 2011 Semester at Sea voyage joined the 10 minute "Freedom is my name; wavin' the flag" lip dub which has been posted on You Tube, Digg, and Reddit, described by Dave Eng in an earlier post, 280,. Students, faculty, staff,  "Little Squirts" (the 24 children on the voyage) and "Salty Dogs" (many of the 60 lifelong learners, crew members, and even Captain Jeremy Kingston participated throughout the ship for the final videographing performance, waving many different na[......]
